At Ewell Grove, we fill our school with music and inspire a lifelong love for singing, creating, and performing! Using the vibrant Charanga scheme of work, our music curriculum is designed to be inclusive, hands-on, and joyful. We aim to nurture every child’s creativity, build their confidence through performance, and foster a deep appreciation for a rich variety of musical styles, traditions, and cultures.
Music is woven into the very heart of school life at Ewell Grove:
The Charanga Scheme: Weekly classroom lessons explore listening, appraising, singing, improvising, composing, and performing across diverse musical genres.
Singing School: Music fills our halls through dedicated singing assemblies, choir clubs, and daily musical opportunities that build vocal confidence and a sense of community.
Hands-on Instruments: Children explore classroom percussion and learn tuned instruments (such as glockenspiels, recorders, or ukuleles), developing rhythm, pitch, and technical skill step-by-step.
Building Musical Vocabulary: Key terms like tempo, pitch, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, and structure are introduced through active listening and practical play, helping children talk about music like true musicians.
Exciting Performances: From nativity plays and termly concerts to community events and end-of-year shows, every child gets the chance to shine on stage.
We aim for the children to leave Ewell Grove as confident, creative musicians. The children will have developed their ability to:
Sing with expression and control, performing both as part of an ensemble and individually with pride.
Play instruments with rhythm and accuracy, reading simple musical notation along the way.
Express their own musical ideas through composition and talk knowledgeably about music using rich technical vocabulary.
Take to the stage with self-assurance, carrying with them joyful musical memories and a lasting appreciation for the power of music to unite us all!
We especially enjoy sharing our musical achievements with our Ewell Grove families during our whole school playground singing events. Everyone has the opportunity to sing-a-long!
