French
At Ewell Grove, we want to spark a lifelong curiosity for languages. Using the Kapow Primary scheme, our French curriculum is vibrant, interactive, and full of fun. We aim to spark curiosity about other cultures while building pupils' confidence to speak, listen, read, and write in French. Beyond learning words, our goal is to nurture open-minded global citizens who feel excited about exploring the wider world.
The Kapow Primary Scheme, along with our inclusive adaptive approach, enables the children to revisit and deepen learning across Key Stage 2.
Phonics First: We explicitly teach French sound-spelling patterns, giving children the tools to decode new words and pronounce them accurately.
Building Real Vocabulary: Words aren't just memorised, they are brought to life through audio, catchy songs, visual tools, and active games.
Friendly Grammar: We teach grammar concepts like word gender and basic verb endings by using them in fun, practical contexts.
Confident Speaking: Using sentence builders and scaffolds, children quickly move from isolated words to holding real conversations and expressing their own ideas.
Cultural Connections: We weave French culture, food, and traditions into our lessons, giving real world meaning to every unit.
We aim for children to leave Ewell Grove as confident, curious linguists. The skills developed across KS2 include:
Speaking with clear pronunciation and holding simple, natural conversations in French.
Reading short texts and writing accurate sentences using core grammar and phonics skills.
Applying transferable language learning skills.
The children will step into the world with curiosity, confidence, and a deep appreciation for diverse languages and cultures.
