PSHE / RSE

At Ewell Grove, PSHE and RSE equip children with the knowledge, emotional literacy, and resilience needed to thrive as healthy, independent, and responsible members of society.

Following the PSHE Association framework, our curriculum covers three core themes: Relationships, Living in the Wider World, and Health and Wellbeing.

Integrated throughout this learning are our core values:

  • Golden Rules: Embedded to promote kindness, respect, honesty, and positive relationships.
  • Fundamental British Values: Actively taught to foster democracy, individual liberty, rule of law, and mutual respect.
  • Sports Values: Woven into health and teamwork modules to build resilience, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
  • Online Safety: Prioritised to ensure children navigate digital environments critically, respectfully, and safely.

Our learning is structured around the PSHE Association Programme of Study, ensuring concepts build progressively from EYFS through Key Stage 2 in age-appropriate lessons. We regularly review our curriculum to ensure we are responding to contextual safeguarding and themes that become a focus within our community. We also have our own bespoke learning organisers, which include high-quality texts and picture books. These resources serve as vital springboards for exploration in our PSHE curriculum. Using high-quality stories as engaging hooks allows our pupils to explore sensitive issues, emotions, and moral dilemmas through safe, relatable narratives. Through these shared texts, key vocabulary such as, empathy, resilience, respect, boundary, and consent is explicitly introduced and defined within a clear context. This approach sparks meaningful classroom discussion, encourages critical thinking, and helps children articulate their own feelings and opinions with confidence. Our lessons establish clear ground rules, using scenarios, discussion, and flexible grouping so pupils can explore sensitive topics safely.

As part of our relational approach, the Golden Rules frame everyday behaviour and conflict resolution, while British Values and Sports Values are modelled through school leadership, PE, and collaborative learning. Online Safety is integrated into our PSHE curriculum and is aligned with Computing to teach digital citizenship, online privacy, anti-bullying, and how to report concerns.

At Ewell Grove, we work in partnership with parents, maintaining open communication regarding statutory RSE content, and we provide regular updates and information during our parent information meetings.

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils at Ewell Grove will:

Build Positive Relationships: Understand healthy boundaries, resolve conflicts using our Golden Rules, and show tolerance and respect for diversity.

Demonstrate Core Values: Apply British Values and Sports Values in their daily interactions, showing fairness, resilience, and active citizenship.

Make Healthy & Safe Choices: Maintain physical and mental well-being, manage emotions, and navigate the online world responsibly.

Know How to Seek Help: Recognise risks both online and offline and confidently seek support when needed.
